About The Blue Cord String
Many of the letters from 1943 were strung together on what looked like a piece of blue cord string. It seemed then that Mary Pranger, Art's mother, was going to use this file system throughout the war, but subsequent writings disproved this theory. We, however, are going to pick up where Mary left off and use her bit of string to hold our letters together, and navigate you through our Letter Archive.

About Rose's Magnifying Glass

Deciphering the letters for this project was a major challenge: many were deteriorating with age, or were written in pencil. Rose found her trusty magnifying glass to be an invaluable tool. Use it yourself to get a closer look at some of these artifacts from the past.

About The Calendar

The calendar image that appears throughout our letter archives is based on an actual item owned by Mary Pranger, Art's mother. She used it to keep track of events regarding her soldier son.
