Soldiers didn't see much action when they were first stationed. Pvt. Art found himself impatient for word from the home front, and in dire need of certain household items.

Dear Mom,

Today we didn't do anything but loaf and about 4:30 we got the rest of our equipment. We saw some picture shows today about germ warfare.

Please send me about 15 clothes hangers, 3 bars of soap and some writing paper and envelopes. We have nice officers down here and the men are nice, too, but they broke me and the rest of the group up I came out with, and I'm about the youngest one in the barracks.

Well, I have to close now. Write soon. Please send those things.
